7 Hostel Room Hygiene Tips

Cleaning the hostel room just adds up to the already flooding to-do list of the day. Generally, it's the most common task that we end up procrastinating. Maintaining room hygiene is certainly important for leading a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few tips that you can use to keep up the hostel hygiene game stronger than ever.

Clean the areas that are used often

The areas that are used often throughout the day like a bedside table, washrooms, cupboards, and bookshelves must be kept clean. Keep the wipes handy and try not to clutter these spaces in the hostel room. Once in a while, it's good to use the disinfectant to maintain good hygiene. Make it a habit to keep things from where you picked them, this will help in decluttering the often-used spaces.

Keep the study table clean

The study table undoubtedly is the most used space in the room. On the other hand, it is the most cluttered space too. As it becomes home to all things we need handy be it midnight snacks, ton loads of stationeries and what not. Hygiene on the study table is necessary to be maintained for it is the space used for the most important tasks throughout the day like reading, writing, and working. Keep it clean by not stacking too many books and arranging the stationaries in the organizer and most importantly keep food away from the study table to avoid spillage.

Change bed sheets

No matter how hectic it may sound but it's really important to keep up with the room hygiene by changing the bedsheets at least fortnightly. Bedsheets tend to catch germs over time which is not healthy. The sheets, pillows, and comforters must be washed regularly as if not washed, bed mites or dust mites may end up causing allergies.

Dusting in the room

Regular dusting is one of the simplest ways to keep the room clean. It doesn't even take too much time and can be done on the go. Dusting the bed, shelves, table almost every day prevents the dust particles to stick around for a long time. Make it a part of your everyday routine to take out 10 minutes for the room and just run some wipes through the most used areas and make your bed every day to lead a hygienic life in hostels.

Keeping yourself clean

Room hygiene is most certainly important but another aspect must not be ignored which is to keep yourself clean. Personal hygiene is as necessary as room hygiene. To take care of yourself be it regular grooming, taking a shower every day, keeping the washroom clean must sound like small things but are very impactful habits. Maintaining personal hygiene is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle.

Use Dustbin

Keep a dustbin in the room for all the mess of chocolate wrappers, stationery waste, etc., and use it. Try not to clutter the trash around useful spaces and make it a habit to throw it in the dustbin. For food-related waste, never keep it in the room as it starts stinking with a foul smell when kept there for some time. Take it away immediately and use the hostel dustbin for that.

Keep food in jars and containers

One of the most important things to keep in check to maintain room hygiene is to store food in jars and containers. Food, when kept open, has high chances of spillage and over time it might end up filling up the room with some foul smell.
